Rudong's administrative approval bureau purchased an all-in-one electronic reading machine and more than 200 books, and set up a reading corner in the self-service area of its government service hall so citizens can feel the joy of reading while waiting for their turn to deal with their official affairs.
"The machine brings convenience to us and the books are varied in type," said Gu Jinmei, a citizen who went to apply for a real estate certificate.
Rudong county has distributed more than 200 similar people-oriented mini reading spaces in hospitals, banking outlets, bus stations and other public service places.
On Jan 1, 2019, the new site of Rudong county library, with a collection of 400,000 books, was officially opened to the public. Smart functional areas including a digital experience area, a visually impaired reading area and a 3D theater were designated. With first-rate facilities, pleasant environment and superior services, the library has become a cultural landmark and one of the county's most ideal places to read.
In addition to traditional libraries, there are also three 24-hour self-service libraries in the county. They break the time and space limitations of traditional ones, and are sources of pleasure and wisdom that never close.
Rudong plans to add 20 book corners and five digital reading machines in other crowded places such as museums, urban complexes, public service organizations and gardens.
