Laowanhe Chaogao in Linzi town, Rugao is among the city's most popular foods and boasts a history of nearly 300 years.
The popular local snack is made of glutinous rice powder, osmanthus flowers and sugar. It has a soft, tender texture and a fresh, sweet fragrance.
According to a book about renowned dishes and snacks in Jiangsu province, Laowanhe was a tea house and made a name for itself by producing chaogao.
Over the centuries, the brand has continued to use traditional production techniques, and it has been listed as an intangible cultural heritage item of Nantong and a "Chinese Time-honored Brand".
