The ninth liquefied natural gas (LNG) transport ship from the Sino-Russian Yamal project docked at Yangkou Port, Rudong county, Nantong in East China's Jiangsu province on Sept 7.

With a cargo of 73,000 tons, the vessel was the 20th ship of LNG supplied to the PetroChina Jiangsu LNG Station since the first production line of the Yamal project was put into operation in 2017.

So far, the Jiangsu station has unloaded nearly 1.3 million tons of LNG from Yamal.

Located at the Yamal Peninsula in Russia, the Yamal project is the first extra-large energy cooperation project carried out in Russia after the Belt and Road Initiative was proposed by China. Focusing on natural gas production, liquefaction, shipping and sales, it is also the largest LNG project developed in the arctic region in the world.

The PetroChina Jiangsu Station is a vital point in the Sino-Russian natural gas trade. It received and unloaded the first LNG ship from the Yamal project on July 19, 2018, opening a new chapter for the utilization of natural gas in arctic region and providing a new guarantee for the increasing energy demands in China.

The first three production lines were put into operation one after another from December 2017 to December 2018. According to agreement, PetroChina will import three million tons of LNG from the Yamal project per year from 2019.

"This year, the Jiangsu LNG station has accumulatively received and unloaded 534,000 tons of LNG from Yamal, accounting for about 20 percent of total discharge," said Zhou Jing, an official from Rudong customs' inspection division.

The recoverable reverse of the South Tambey Field developed in the Yamal project reaches 1.3 trillion square meters and the annual production capacity for LNG is 16.5 million tons.

"The Yamal project is of great significance to the construction of the Polar Silk Road and plays an important role in guaranteeing domestic LNG supply and realizing a multi-source natural gas supply guarantee system," according to Wang Zhonghai, Party secretary of PetroChina Jiangsu Liquefied Natural Gas Co Ltd.
