An experiential event on industrial culture was held in Tangzha town, Gangzha district, Nantong, on May 23, the first of its kind in the town.

May 23, 1899 marked the opening of the cotton mill founded by Zhang Jian, a famous modern industrialist, in Tangzha town. So that day was recently considered as the appropriate day for holding the experiential event of industrial culture.

In addition to the cotton mill, Zhang also opened up a dozen enterprises and factories engaged in iron, oil pressing, rice processing, shipping and textiles. As the district is boosting preservation and renovation of the remaining industrial sites, a growing number of people are now interested in Tangzha.

The town has recorded the great efforts that predecessors have made in local industrial development. Young people were inspired by the pioneers' stories shared during the event.

A series of activities attracted a number of participants. Many children and their parents drew colorful pictures on a 100-meter-long scroll, and eye-catching performances were given by robots and drones.

Some residents also experienced movable-type printing, as well as made pastries, soap and iron handicrafts themselves.
