Huayuanqiao community in Rugao, a county-level city in Nantong, East China's Jiangsu province was recently included in the second list of National Forest Villages, which was released by the National Forestry and Grassland Administration.
Another four villages in the city – Longyouhe village, Wenzhuang community, Zhiqing community and Zhouzhuang community – made the first list, which was released earlier this year.
The lists are the result of a comprehensive evaluation by national and local forestry authorities on the villages' ability to protect natural landscapes, develop agricultural and forestry industries and manage the living environment.
Huayuanqiao community, located in the northwestern Rugao Economic and Technological Development Zone, covers an area of 2.8 square kilometers and is home to 3,840 residents.
In recent years, the local government has worked to develop a modern agricultural industry. There are currently 26 local businesses engaged in the planting of trees and flowers, lifting the community’s green coverage rate to 38.3 percent.
