Updated: 2019-07-18

A new base station for 5G, the latest generation of mobile communications, was recently launched on Yangguang island in Rudong county, Nantong, East China's Jiangsu province.

According to the local government, the new 5G base station is the first of its kind in the Yellow Sea region.

Established by China Mobile, a leading Chinese telecom operator, the station will help Yangguang island achieve full 5G network coverage.

The island, situated 15 kilometers from the Rudong county coastline, is one of the operating areas of Yangkou port. It supports a great deal of companies, including a liquefied natural gas (LNG) receiving station.

Due to the faster speeds and enhanced coverage of 5G , businesses in the area will be able to improve communications with their partners.

The new 5G network guarantees fast and stable upload and download speeds, with the ability to burst up 1.2Gbps download speeds on the circuit.

The 5G base station is expected to bring about new opportunities for wind power, tourism, and fishery sectors in the area. According to the Jiangsu branch of China Mobile, it plans to expand 5G coverage throughout the coastal areas of the province.
