A launch ceremony was held on July 2 to mark the beginning of cooperation between the government of Bencha town, Rudong county and a number of tourism, architecture, and design companies.

According to the local government, Bencha town plans to build itself into one of the most distinct environmental ancient towns in the northern area of the Yangtze River Delta. It will open to the public as a tourist attraction on Oct 1 next year.

Bencha town, situated in Rudong county, Nantong, Jiangsu province, boasts a history of over 1,000 years. The town has developed transportation infrastructure and appealing tourist attractions, and in 2012 it stepped up efforts to promote its tourism industry.

Last year, the town's general plan to protect its ancient buildings and develop cultural programs was approved by the provincial government.
