Dragon boat race stirs up excitement in Rudong

A dragon boat race was held in Bingcha town, Rudong county, Nantong, Jiangsu province on June 7, attracting more than 40,000 visitors from around the country. Nine male teams and three female teams competed in the race.
The race, introduced in 2015, was meant to celebrate the Dragon Boat Festival, which falls on the fifth day of June on the Chinese calendar and has long been an important festival in the area.
Bingcha town, an ancient town in Nantong, has made great efforts to preserve its local folk culture in recent years.
Folk activities such as the dragon boat race have attracted many visitors to the area.
During the Dragon Boat Festival, the town also held a food festival and cultural performances such as waist dances and dragon dances.
Zhang Feng, the town's Party secretary, said that Bingcha is in the process of transforming its traditional industries and promoting industries such as tourism. He added that preserving folk customs will help attract tourists to the town.
