The opening ceremony for a Chinese ink and water painting exhibition takes place at Nantong Central Art Museum in Chongchuan district, Jan 5.

A Chinese ink and water painting exhibition opened at Nantong Central Art Museum in the Chongchuan district of Nantong, East China's Jiangsu province, on Jan 5.

More than 80 pieces of artwork produced by Xu Wei, a professor at Nantong University, were on display.

Since graduating from Nanjing University of the Arts in 1982, Xu has devoted himself to the practice and research of xieyi - a freehand style of Chinese ink painting. 

His work mainly features scenes from the natural world, and he tries to generate feelings of vigor and passion through his art. 

The exhibition was hosted by Nantong Federation of Literary and Art Circles and Nantong Artists Association. It will conclude on Jan 9.
