A hydrogen fuel cell power module from Haimen-based HyDream Energy helped Jilin University team win two first-place awards in the hydrogen category at the 2026 Baja SAE China, which concluded in Tongxiang, East China's Zhejiang province, on Aug 30.

The competition, organized by the China Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE China), is for Chinese university students to design and build off-road racing vehicles. This year's hydrogen category featured 18 university teams, including Jilin University and Hunan University, both of which used modules from HyDream Energy.

In the endurance race, cars had to run for four hours, with only a limited number of pit stops permitted. The company's modules remained stable on bumpy roads, steep climbs and long, high-intensity runs.

Gu Cangjiao, assistant to the general manager of HyDream Energy, said the company's mass-produced hydrogen fuel cell can operate at minus 20 degrees Celsius and in high summer temperatures.

HyDream Energy also supplied hydrogen two-wheelers for staff, volunteers and competitors, and hydrogen shuttles for visitors. Its hydrogen emergency power units provided backup power on site. By the end of the event, the company had secured purchase intentions from potential customers.
