Rugao's traditional rod puppetry recently introduced audiences to the artistry of Chinese intangible cultural heritage at the 2nd Belt and Road Forum on People-to-People Connectivity in Nanjing.

As part of a showcase on cultural exchange and mutual learning among civilizations, the Rugao rod puppetry cultural exchange program presented a lively performance for diplomats, think tank experts and business representatives from dozens of countries and regions along the Belt and Road, including Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Malaysia and Russia.

Through intricate puppets, ingenious stagecraft and highly expressive performances, the centuries-old art offered an engaging glimpse into the creativity and craftsmanship behind China's traditional culture.

Dating back to the Yuan and Ming dynasties (1271-1644), Rugao rod puppetry has become a compelling vehicle for cultural dialogue, connecting audiences at home and abroad through the enduring appeal of traditional Chinese art.
