As Spring Festival or Chinese New Year is right around the corner, consider heading to Rudong county in Nantong, Jiangsu province, to enjoy the unique festive atmosphere there.

When strolling through the urban area on Feb 21, you will soon be treated to a tiaomafu performance. This prized example of intangible cultural heritage integrates traditional dance, acrobatics, and characteristic formations. Created by towns or sub-districts in the county, these performances usually revolve around such subjects or topics as the ocean, flower, drums or football.

From Feb 17 to 21, Peach Blossom Island in the Xiaoyangkou Tourist Resort will offer interactive activities for parents and children to enjoy some festive fun together.

Undoubtedly one of the highlights will be the professional circus that promises to wow audiences with thrilling acrobatics and cute animals from near and far, including alpacas from South America, allowing festivalgoers to get up close and personal with these exotic guests.

Bencha Ancient Town will offer a cultural feast from Feb 17 to 22. People from the Miao ethnic group, dressed in their finest traditional attire, will perform the Lusheng dance and sing Miao songs, letting people experience the ethnic customs of Southwest China. Meanwhile, people in Rudong will perform flower-drum performances and sing their favorite folk songs.

If you like to hit up trendy places over the Chinese New Year holiday, Shanghe Yinxiang cultural block is an excellent option. You can go there to enjoy acrobatics and magic shows, browse cultural and creative markets, and take photos with traditional Chinese lantern walls and giant Year of the Horse installations.
