Combining "Shuxiang Yinyang" (scholarly Yinyang) and cultural development in rural areas, Yinyang town in Qidong, a county-level city administered by Nantong in East China's Jiangsu province, launched a string of activities to promote public reading earlier this year.

The rural libraries help the farmers not only increase theoretical knowledge but also master advanced skills.

Gao Hanzhong of Dongqinghe village is a farmer and agent of the brand "Qingnan potherb mustard". As early as the 1990s, he began experimenting with large-scale pickling of potherb mustard, and used traditional marketing models for many years.

After the rural library in the village was built, Gao was attracted by various scientific and technological books and often visited the library. In 2003, the village established a potherb mustard cooperative and registered the trademark of Qingnan potherb mustard.

Through reading books and looking up data, and with the guidance from the village Party committee and agricultural technologists, Gao put the production of local potherb mustard on the right track and built five pickling sites of a certain scale.

Now, the pickling of potherb mustard is increasing local villagers' income and leading them to prosperity.
