Nantong Tianyang Photovoltaic Material Co Ltd, located in the Yangkou Port Economic Development Zone, Rudong, Nantong, has begun trial production for its first-phase project, with 11 production lines already installed and eight more being set up.

Once fully operational, the first phase is expected to produce 150 million square meters of encapsulation film annually. All test results have so far shown a 100 percent pass rate, and the facility is on track to begin full production by mid-year, according to Yang Tianfeng, the company's human resources and administrative director.

Encapsulation film is a crucial component in photovoltaic module packaging, providing protection to solar cells and enhancing the efficiency and lifespan of the modules. This film is a midstream component in the photovoltaic industrial chain.

Nantong Tianyang Photovoltaic Material is invested by Shanghai Tianyang Group, the only publicly listed hot-melt adhesive company in China and a leader in its segment of the photovoltaic industry chain. With a total investment of 1 billion yuan ($138.02 million), the company occupies 7 hectares and is being constructed in two phases, with the second phase expected to start later this year. It is projected to produce 300 million square meters of encapsulation film annually, with expected taxable sales of 2.5 billion yuan.

Explaining the reasons behind choosing Rudong as the project's location, Yang highlighted the development zone's strong foundation in solar energy. Rudong hosts major PV component manufacturers and is a hub for photovoltaic power generation companies. The county has an installed capacity of 1.2 million kilowatts and is rapidly advancing mega tidal flat solar panel projects, offering a huge market and considerable growth potential.
