From dream to reality: 20 years of Yangkou port
Yangkou port, celebrating its 20th anniversary, stands as a testament to the power of local dreams and determination. From a daring vision to a thriving reality, the port's journey began in the 1980s, when it was selected as one of seven major deep-water port sites nationwide.

Situated on a sandbar with a challenging landscape in the south of Yellow Sea, Yangkou Port's construction defied conventional wisdom. The dream was rooted in the belief that local advantages, including over 100 kilometers of coastline and vast maritime resources, could drive significant development.
Facing marginalization in the industrial era and setbacks, such as a failed bid for a single-point mooring project in 1992, Rudong established the Yangkou Port Development Office, marking the first step in a relentless pursuit of success.
Scientific research, led by Nanjing University, provided the theoretical foundation for building a port on the radiating sandbar. The dream gained momentum with the support of experts like Wang Ying, whose findings on tidal ranges and historical waterways added credibility.
Numerous theoretical and policy work is made behind the construction.
In 2002, the vision expanded beyond local boundaries. Rudong leaders sought provincial and regional recognition for the port's strategic importance.
Supported by the provincial government in 2004, the development and implementation of Yangkou port accelerated, aligning with the broader strategy of Jiangsu province's initiative to strengthen transportation links. Today, the port symbolizes a dare to dream, showcasing Rudong's resilience, adaptability, and unwavering commitment to turning dreams into reality.
