Things are really hotting up at the Yellow Sea Second Bridge – located in Yangkou Port, in Rudong county in Nantong city, in East China's Jiangsu province.

It's a key project for the comprehensive transportation system in Jiangsu province and the build-out is now in full swing, with workers laying waterproof concrete pavements onto the structure recently.

The project, with a total investment of 1 billion yuan ($145.45 million), has a total length of 10.04 kilometers. It is located east of the Yellow Sea First Bridge and runs parallel to it, with a distance of 30 meters between them. The bridge width is 13.1 meters, designed for two lanes.

"The project has completed 85 percent of the total engineering process," said Yuan Chen, deputy chief engineer of the project, being undertaken by China Communications Construction Company Second Navigation Engineering Bureau.

"We are striving to ensure that the bridge is ready for acceptance by the end of July," Yuan added.

The Yellow Sea Bridge is an important infrastructure project in the Yangkou Port Economic Development Zone. It is expected to boost connectivity between the port industrial zone and Yangguang Island – which is administered by Yangkou Port – where several liquefied natural gas, or LNG, terminal projects are located.

The port industrial zone has planned four major areas for port-based industries supported by the port. A number of projects with an investment of more than 10 billion yuan have started production in the zone.

After the completion of the second bridge, the overall traffic capacity will  double, reducing the pressure on logistics transportation in the port area and boosting the development of port industries.
