With escort tugs dispatched by the Jiangsu Maritime Safety Administration, the Marshall Islands-registered Mekaines – one of the world's largest liquefied natural gas tankers – docked at Yangkou Port in Rudong county, Nantong city in East China's Jiangsu province, on Nov 14.

The tanker was carrying 110,000 metric tons of LNG and its arrival marked a new milestone for the facility – with the unloading volume of LNG by Yangkou Port in 2022 breaking through 6 million tons to rank it first in Jiangsu province and third nationwide.

The 345-meter-long and 55-meter-wide tanker from Qatar reached Yangkou Port after 18 days at sea. It's estimated that the 110,000 tons of LNG will convert to about 160 million cubic meters of natural gas which will supply the public after gasification.

LNG – which is high quality, efficient, green and clean – is playing an increasingly important role in the country's energy structure transformation, in response to China's peak carbon and carbon neutrality goals.

The local maritime department has now escorted 68 LNG tankers in the year to date.
