The Jiangsu coastal natural gas pipeline project linking Rudong county in Nantong city in East China's Jiangsu province to Changshu and Taicang – both county-level cities, administered by Jiangsu's Suzhou city – is a significant infrastructure project.
It is an important part of the province's new natural gas pipeline distribution network, with a much larger turnover capacity than the existing pipelines.
The construction of the project is now in full swing.
"The diameter of the pipeline is 1,219 millimeters and the Rudong section of the pipeline has been laid for a total of 48 kilometers," said Ding Feng, the project manager.
"The section is expected to be completed soon," Ding added.
The project is scheduled to start operating in December 2024. It is expected to optimize the natural gas industry network in Jiangsu province and remove the imbalance between supply and demand of natural gas in the middle and northern parts of the province.
Natural gas from the supply terminal at Yangguang Island – the manmade island in Yangkou Port in Rudong – is expected to be transferred to all parts of the Yangtze River Delta via the new natural gas pipelines in the future. At full load, the daily transmission capacity of the pipelines could reach 90 million cubic meters, equivalent to the annual gas consumption of about 450,000 households.
Yangguang Island is the largest LNG receiving, unloading and transshipment base in the Yangtze River Delta. The PetroChina Jiangsu LNG Terminal on the island has six LNG storage tanks with a total capacity of 1.08 million cu m.
In addition, three other LNG projects are under construction on the island. They will significantly boost the LNG handling capacity of the island on completion.
