The construction of three 200,000-cubic-meter liquefied natural gas or LNG storage tanks in the first phase of an LNG storage and peak-shaving project in East China's Jiangsu province got into full swing recently – despite the sizzling summer heat wave.
The project is located on Yangguang Island, a man-made island off Yangkou Port in Rudong county, in Jiangsu province.
In order to ensure workers' health and safety during outdoor operations in summer, construction hours have been arranged in shifts and adjusted to the relatively cool hours of the day. At the same time, two supply stations have been set up at the construction site to provide workers with drinks and anti-heat medicine.
The first phase has received a total investment of about 5.2 billion yuan ($771 million) and includes three LNG storage tanks and corresponding auxiliary facilities.
With planned investment of 2.1 billion yuan, the second phase will build a 200,000-cu-m LNG storage tank and a special LNG terminal which can dock 80,000 cu m to 266,000 cu m LNG tankers.
Once the complex starts operations, it will provide LNG storage, transportation and gas services and become an important source of future natural gas demand in Jiangsu, according to officials.
Construction work at the site is expected to finish in June 2023.
