Maritime Work Zone is composed of Sunshine Island Work Zone, Big Sun Island Work Zone and Encircling Harbor Basin Work Zone.
Sunshine Island Work Zone
The Sunshine Island Work Zone covers an area of three square kilometers and can build 37 berths of 10,000 tons to 200,000 tons. The main planning and developing industries are liquefied natural gas, product oil, liquid chemicals, bulk cargo logistics and warehouse, etc.
Big Sun Island Work Zone
It is 18km from the east side of Sunshine Island. The planned area is 6 sq km. It can build 14 berths with 250,000 tons to 300,000 tons. It mainly develops logistics of ore and oil product and big refining and chemical project.
Encircling Harbor Basin Work Zone
The planned area is 14 sq km. The shoreline is 4 km long. It can build 15 general bulk berths of 50,000 tons to 70,000 tons. It develops coastal encircling harbor basin, container, bulk cargo logistics, storage and maritime work equipment service, etc.
Big events:
Nanjing University and Hohai University completed the Preliminary Feasibility Study Report of Yangkou Port in November 1988, which was reviewed by 101 experts in January 1990 including Yan Kai, academician at the Chinese Academy of Engineering and Chinese Academy of Sciences.

In 1993, the US Department of Commerce and the Ministry of Electricity signed a memorandum of understanding between Weil Group and Jiangsu Provincial Power Bureau to invest LNG(Liquefied Natural gas)-power project in Rudong.

On July 19, 2018, the first ship of liquefied natural gas (LNG) supplied to China from the Yamal LNG Project, a major energy cooperation Sino-Russia project, arrived at Yangkou Port, which has become an important node of the Maritime Silk Road (proposed by China in 2013 will boost stability and sustainable development for all countries involved).
The Sailing Ceremony of Container Liner between Yangkou Port and Shanghai Port was held on Aug 5, 2018.
