The PetroChina Jiangsu LNG Terminal on Yangguang Island – an offshore island of Yangkou Port in Nantong city in East China's Jiangsu province – on Nov 28 welcomed its 500th LNG tanker.
It proudly accepted the Woodside Charles Allen from Australia, its latest berth since its establishment a decade ago.
The PetroChina Jiangsu LNG Terminal is regarded as being one of the important strategic facilities for offshore oil and gas in China. It undertakes the important task of ensuring regulations and supplies in the Yangtze River Delta region.
After a 72-hour performance test of support facilities, two new 200,000-cubic-meter LNG storage tanks constructed for the PetroChina Jiangsu LNG Terminal's phase III expansion project began to bring on board natural gas on Sept 26.
Following the addition of the new tanks – adding to the four existing storage tanks in the first and second phases – the overall gas storage capacity of the terminal has increased to 1.08 million cu m.
According to officials, compared with previous years, supplies for this year's winter face new challenges. Due to the current complex global COVID-19 pandemic situation, staff at the terminal need to follow strict epidemic prevention procedures. This has had an impact on the overall efficiency for receiving and unloading LNG.
The terminal has made every effort in advance to make sure that there are adequate reserves of personnel – to ensure the smooth, efficient and controlled functions for LNG receiving and unloading, processing and production, as well as materials supplies.
Efforts have paid off. Since the start of the 150-day winter supply campaign earlier last month, the PetroChina Jiangsu LNG Terminal has received nine LNG tankers and unloaded 800,000 tons of LNG. The daily natural gas supplies have reached some 35 million square meters, reaching about 30 million families in the Yangtze River Delta region.
