Construction on a pipeline bridge at Yangkou Port in Rudong, Nantong, in East China's Jiangsu province was almost finished at the end of October. The bridge, connecting Yangguang Island in Rudong with the mainland, is a key part of the Jiangsu coastal pipeline project.
Meant to help Jiangsu province realize the interconnection of natural gas, the pipeline project consists of two main lines, four sub-trunk lines, seven connecting lines and 14 branch lines, with a total length of 1,748 kilometers and over 20 billion yuan ($3.12 billion) in investment.
Starting construction in December 2020, the south main line starts at Yangguang Island at Yangkou Port, passes through Changshu, a county-level city in Suzhou, Jiangsu, and ends in Taicang, another county-level city in Suzhou.
"Rudong station is the departure station of both the south and north lines. After completion, it will be able to transport natural gas from Yangguang Island at Yangkou Port to the whole province," said Ding Feng, manager of the coastal pipeline project.
The Rudong-Yancheng-Binhai north main line will commence next year. After the project is finished and begins operating, 16 billion standard cubic feet of natural gas will be distributed throughout the province, reducing carbon dioxide emissions by 68.94 million tons and sulfur dioxide emissions by 760,000 tons and contributing to the country's target of peaking carbon emissions by 2030 and reaching carbon neutrality by 2060.
