The green energy industry in China has ushered in an unprecedented boom as the country has set a goal of having peaking carbon emissions by 2030 and reaching carbon neutrality by 2060.

With abundant resources in wind power and liquefied natural gas, Rudong county in Nantong, East China's Jiangsu province, has obvious advantages in the green energy industry.

Rows of wind turbine generators can be seen off the coast of Rudong,. After years of planning and construction, the county's wind power plants are now at an impressive scale. More than 4.2 billion kilowatt-hours have been generated and connected to the grid this year, a year-on-year increase of over 65 percent. The figure is expected to surpass 6 billion by the end of this year.

There are 11 offshore wind power projects currently underway in the county. After the completion of all wind power plants planned during the 13th Five-Year Plan period (2016-20), Rudong has been able to deliver more than 13.5 billion kWh of electricity to the Jiangsu grid, saving 4.72 million tons of standard coal and cutting 16 million tons of carbon dioxide emissions and 90,000 tons of sulfur dioxide emissions.

Natural gas is another key to Rudong's clean energy industrial system. In addition to LNG terminals, a coastal gas pipeline project in Jiangsu province with an investment of over 20 billion yuan is currently under construction. After it begins operating, the annual gas transmission volume will reach 16 billion standard cubic feet.

In the 14th Five-Year Plan period (2021-25), the county will also focus on hydrogen energy development to make its industrial system more diversified and build itself into a national model city for green energy.
