Changsha township in Rudong county – administered by Nantong city in East China's Jiangsu province – began vaccinating young people between the ages of 12 to 17 against COVID-19 on Aug 5.
Vaccinations are being carried out in a safe and orderly manner, with the consent of the students and their parents or guardians, according to staff at the Changsha town clinic.
Most students – from primary, junior high and senior high schools, secondary vocational schools and technical schools – are included in the targeted age groups. Parents or guardians are required to read consent forms thoroughly and sign their informed consent before vaccination and accompany their children on-site to get the jab.
China's mass immunization program is reportedly progressing smoothly, with over 1.65 billion doses administered as of July 31, according to the National Health Commission.
