Rudong sees new drivers of economic development
Since the beginning of this year, Rudong county – administered by Nantong city in East China's Jiangsu province – has been upgrading its industrial layout and optimizing its industrial structure in an effort to accelerate economic development.
From January to April of this year, the county's investment in fixed assets grew by 27.6 percent over the same period last year, ranking second among all administrative regions in Nantong. Investment in high and new-tech industries and high-tech industries increased by 62.9 and 265 percent, ranking second and first in the city, respectively.
"By introducing high-tech industrial projects, the industrial development structure of Rudong will be optimized, supporting the county's sustainable economic development," said Cao Aiming, deputy director of the county's development and reform department.
"In the process of attracting major projects, key industrial parks should attract some leading and hub-type projects so as to drive the development of local upstream and downstream industries," Cao added.
Construction on one such project, Tongkun Group Co Ltd's new polyester manufacturing hub, located in the Yangkou Port Economic Development Zone in Rudong, is now in full swing.
Tongkun group invested a total of 45 billion yuan ($6.96 billion) in the project, which is expected to start production within the year.
