Authorities in the Nantong Economic and Technological Development Area, East China's Jiangsu province held a cultural activity to create a festive atmosphere and enrich residents' spiritual life for the upcoming Spring Festival on Jan 13.
Authorities invited local calligraphy enthusiasts to write couplets and the Chinese character "福" for residents at the event.
It is a tradition in China to paste couplets as well as papers with the character "福" on doors during the Spring Festival as they symbolize one's wishes for a good year.
After the event ended, volunteers delivered the couplets to the area's disadvantaged people, including people with disabilities, low-income households and elderly people who live alone.
