【Dynamic Decade】NETDA marks sound progress over past decade
The Nantong Economic and Technological Development Area (NETDA) in East China's Jiangsu province has over the past decade made remarkable achievements in its economic development, business environment, and improvement of people's well-being.
Authorities in NETDA have over the past 10 years been focused on attracting more high-quality investment.
One of the major projects NETDA has welcomed is the lithium ion battery separator facility funded by Shenzhen Senior Technology Material Co Ltd, an industry-leading enterprise. In June 2021, Shenzhen Senior signed an agreement to build a 10-billion-yuan ($1.44 billion) facility in NETDA.
The area is currently home to 30 projects that are each worth over 2 billion yuan, including Merck & Co Inc, Goon Trax and Forop Advanced Materials Co Ltd.
NETDA's actual use of foreign capital over the past 10 years had exceeded $6.4 billion, accounting for more than 20 percent of Nantong's total.
The major projects have made great contributions to NETDA's economy, with their combined output value expanding at an average annual growth rate of 9.9 percent from 36 billion yuan in 2012 to 84.24 billion yuan in 2021.
Authorities had strived to improve the business environment in the area during the period. For example, they established an enterprise service center in June 2021 to provide life cycle services to enterprises.
NETDA's government also provided firm support to Nantong Reshine New Material Co Ltd in terms of talents and funds in 2015.
In addition, NETDA has been making efforts to improve its ecological landscape. For instance, several ecological landscape areas such as Honggang Wetland Park, Honggang Riverside Ecological Landscape Belt, and the Nengda Ecological Corridor were introduced during the last decade.
Improving the well-being of the people was another priority during the period. A total of 123 projects related to this matter were carried out, including the provision of 5.74 million-square-meter of resettlement housing, the building of three primary schools and six kindergartens, and the renovating of four sub-district's health centers and 10 community-level health centers.
