During the commemorative event marking the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Chinese People's War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression and the World's Anti-Fascist War, 80 Chinese national flags flew proudly in the wind at Tian'anmen Square in Beijing on Sept 3.

These flags, along with the flagpoles they were hoisted on, were produced by Tongzhou-based manufacturer Nantong Yaolong Metal Manufacturing Co, who were entrusted with this prestigious mission three months ago.

Yaolong is no stranger to such high-profile projects. It has previously made its mark by designing flagpoles for events of global importance, such as the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, the Olympic Winter Games Beijing 2022, and the Hangzhou Asian Games.

The company assembled its top technical and construction personnel to devise a comprehensive production plan. From finalizing the design drafts, to trial-producing samples, and then refining the manufacturing processes, they worked tirelessly. By the end of July, the last batch of flagpoles and flags had been produced and were all shipped to Beijing.

These flagpoles are truly remarkable, standing at 14 meters in height, about 2 m taller than ordinary ones. The flag bases weigh 6 tons each, and a specially designed Great Wall pattern is carved around their circumference. The flags are oversized too, measuring 3.3 m in width and 5 m in length, and their area is three to four times larger than that of ordinary flags.

On Sept 3, all the company's employees gathered around screens to watch the live coverage of the V-Day commemorations. "Seeing the flags we made on display in Tian'anmen Square is like being there in person to receive the review. It's an incredibly proud moment for all of us," Chen Zheng, a production workshop employee, said in excitement.
