Tongzhou embraces cross-border e-commerce boom
With the continuous development of cross-border e-commerce, an increasing number of businesses in Tongzhou district, Nantong, Jiangsu province, are venturing into the business.
The district is currently home to 48 registered enterprises engaged in cross-border e-commerce. Last year, 24 production-oriented companies initiated cross-border e-commerce operations, 18 more than in 2021.
Nantong SuTong Separation Technology Co Ltd, a nationally-recognized high-tech production company, is one such example of a company that transitioned from traditional offline international trade to the online sphere. Thanks to the international orders obtained through cross-border e-commerce, the company achieved annual sales of 300 million yuan ($40.99 million) in 2022.
Benefiting from a surge in orders from Belt and Road countries, including the Middle East and Russia, the company's cross-border exports in last year reached 14 million yuan.
According to statistics, from January to August, Tongzhou's cross-border e-commerce exports totaled $14.62 million, reflecting a remarkable year-on-year growth of 17.6 percent.
