Haimen district in Nantong recently became the only region in East China's Jiangsu province to be commended as "a place with outstanding results in promoting quality work", according to a notice issued by the General Office of the State Council on May 7.

Haimen received the commendation for the significant achievements it made in fully implementing major policies and measures in 2020.

Its excellent performance was also recognized by the provincial government, which praised it as "a place with outstanding results in advancing quality work and intellectual property rights work, as well as achieving strong results in reform and innovation" last year.

Haimen is famous around China for its home textiles, as it is home to a number of enterprise clusters of various sizes with a high degree of industrial agglomeration.

It took the lead in establishing the country's first home textile quality cooperative in 2017.

A strict management system containing six uniform measures was enforced to enhance product quality, covering product standards and standardized product identification, product inspection and testing, a chief quality officer mechanism, quality credit system, brand development plan, and law enforcement and supervision. A total of 3.5 million yuan ($544,600) was spent last year to guarantee the management work.

Thanks to these efforts, the number of members of the cooperative has increased from the preliminary 17 to the current 553. Among them, three have been awarded the title of "Quality Model Enterprise", one has been given the Haimen Mayor Quality Award, and 81 have passed ISO9001 quality management system certification.

In 2020, Haimen obtained 306 home textile patent authorizations and its home textile products accounted for more than 50 percent of the national market share, being sold to more than 150 countries. The market transaction volume hit 128 billion yuan, generating entrepreneurial and job opportunities for 200,000 people.

The textile industry has become a pillar industry of the local economy, significantly improving people's living standards.
