The commencement ceremony for a provincial project by Huaneng Nantong Gas Turbine Power Co Ltd was held in the Gangzha Economic Development Zone in Nantong, East China's Jiangsu province, on Dec 17.

The three-billion-yuan ($429.18 million) project involves the building of two gas-steam combined cycle generators in the zone.

To expedite construction, the zone's authorities have shorten the approval process by at least one year.

The two generator sets, which will be put into operation by the end of 2025, are expected to generate over five billion kWh every year and alleviate the pressure on Jiangsu's power grid.

The gas-steam generators will result in a reduction of 1.37 million metric tons of standard coal used per year and will promote the transformation of the energy consumption structure in Jiangsu province.
