The Shanghai-Suzhou-Nantong Railway started operations on July 1.
With a designed speed of 200 kph, the rail line will cut travel time between Shanghai and Nantong to about one hour from the current 3.5 hours, according to China State Railway Group.
Stretching 143 kilometers, the line crosses the Yangtze River via the Shanghai-Nantong Yangtze River Bridge, passes Jiangsu's Suzhou city and ends in Jiading district in Shanghai, the company said.
The Shanghai-Suzhou-Nantong Railway is an important part of the coastal passage in the "eight vertical and eight horizontal" high-speed railway network planned by the national medium- and long-term railway network.
