Scania was awarded the 2026 SwedCham Honorary Award on May 29 by the Swedish Chamber of Commerce China in recognition of its long-term commitment to the Chinese market, outstanding investment efforts, and contributions to industrial development and localized products and solutions.
According to the chamber, the award highlights Scania's success in developing a benchmark project in Rugao, reflecting the company's confidence in China and serving as a model for Swedish industrial enterprises seeking to support industrial upgrading and strengthen economic and trade exchanges between China and Sweden.
The chamber noted that, through close cooperation with local suppliers, communities, and technical institutions, Scania has actively promoted talent development, knowledge sharing and responsible business practices.
As a global leader in heavy-duty trucks and buses, Scania is building its third global manufacturing base in Rugao. With a total investment exceeding 10 billion yuan ($1.47 billion), the project integrates vehicle manufacturing, powertrain production, and a research and development headquarters. It is one of the company's largest overseas investments in nearly 70 years.
Since its launch, the project has strengthened and expanded Rugao's automotive industrial chain, creating numerous jobs.
Commenting on the award, Camilla Dewoon, executive vice-president of Scania Group and president of Scania China, said the company was deeply honored to receive the recognition.
"The award holds special significance for Scania. It recognizes the joint efforts of our employees, teams, and partners, while reflecting our firm belief in long-term cooperation, continuous innovation and responsible business development," she said.
Dewoon added that Scania will continue to invest in China for the long term, deepen its integration into the local ecosystem, and work with partners to promote more efficient, reliable and sustainable development.
