A Scania electric heavy truck project was launched in Rugao Economic and Technological Development Zone on May 14, marking another step in the company's expansion in China and strengthening the region's position in the new energy vehicle industry.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, Camilla Dewoon, president of Scania China, said China remains the world's largest automotive market and offers significant growth opportunities. She noted that Nantong's favorable location, strong industrial support network and business-friendly environment have reinforced Scania's confidence in expanding its presence in the city.
Scania will seize development opportunities and accelerate project construction, she said, while contributing to the high-quality development of Nantong's manufacturing sector.
The new project builds on Scania's growing investment footprint in China through its Rugao production base, which serves as the company's third global manufacturing base after Europe and South America.
The Rugao facility also represents Scania's largest overseas investment since its founding in 1957. It became the first case of a European heavy-duty truck brand establishing localized production in China through a wholly owned operation after the country lifted foreign ownership restrictions in the commercial vehicle manufacturing sector in 2020.
