Wang Family's Baochi pills, a famous intangible cultural heritage item in Nantong, Jiangsu province, were successfully listed in Macao on July 27.

Known as the "Best Pill in China", Wang Family's Baochi pills originated from a ninth-generation secret formula passed down by Wang Luqing, a famous physician from Nantong in the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911). It is a pure Chinese medicine preparation supervised by Wang Mianzhi, a 19th-generation descendant of the Wang family, with high efficacy in treating digestive and respiratory diseases.

Over the past decade, Jinghua Pharmaceutical Group Co, producer of Wang Family's Baochi pills, has collaborated with authoritative institutions such as Harvard Medical Center and Peking University to reveal the medicine's pharmacological mechanisms in gastrointestinal motility and intestinal flora.

The internationalization of Chinese medicine is a dual competition of quality and rules. Different countries have significant differences in registration requirements for Chinese medicine, ranging from component analysis to production processes, safety verification, and quality standards, all of which need to be scientifically and rigorously compatible across the globe. In response to stringent market requirements, Jinghua Pharmaceutical has completed heavy metal, pesticide residue, and toxicity tests in accordance with the latest policy requirements in Macao.

Yin Hongyu, chairman of Jinghua Pharmaceutical, said that as a national confidential variety, a national-level intangible cultural heritage item, and a time-honored product, Wang Family's Baoshi pills have pioneered the registration of similar traditional Chinese medicines in Macao, and their successful registration further promotes cultural integration between the Chinese mainland and Macao.
