Construction began on PetroChina's LNG storage tank expansion project in Rudong county, Nantong, Jiangsu, on June 24, which has a total investment of 1.66 billion yuan ($231.48 million).

The project includes the construction of a 200,000-cubic-meter LNG storage tank, supporting infrastructure, and new pipelines, increasing daily gasification and transmission capacity by 17.5 million cubic meters.

Slated for operation in 2029, the project will boost the PetroChina Jiangsu LNG terminal's annual receiving, storage, gasification, and delivery capacity to 10 million metric tons. The terminal's daily gasification output will increase to 56.5 million cubic meters, significantly enhancing peak-shaving capacity and ensuring a more stable natural gas supply for the Yangtze River Delta region.

Currently, the PetroChina LNG terminal in Jiangsu operates six storage tanks and has handled over 64 million tons of LNG from 26 countries and regions, including Qatar. It supplies about 30 percent of Jiangsu's annual natural gas consumption.

Two additional LNG terminals are under construction, and with four more being planned. After they are completed, the LNG infrastructure in the region is expected to reach a total annual receiving capacity of over 26 million tons, accounting for 10 percent of the national total and ranking first in China.

Wang Zhonghai, chairman of PetroChina Jiangsu LNG, stated in his speech that the company will further deepen cooperation with local authorities, align with Rudong's clean energy development plans, and explore opportunities for cold energy utilization and diversified industrial growth.
