Haimen adds national STB in legume sector
The Haimen Legume Science and Technology Backyard (STB), an innovative agriculture model integrating industry, academia, research, and application, was recognized as a national-level STB recently.
Established in 2023 through a collaboration between the Legume Innovation Team of the Provincial Academy of Agricultural Sciences and the Changle Town in Haimen, the technology backyard covers an area of 200 mu (13.33 hectares) and has been developed into a specialized legume industry expo park.
It follows the "three zones and one center" concept, including a green production demonstration area for leguminous crops, a standardized production demonstration area for leguminous crops, a colorful new bean variety breeding and display area, and a legume science popularization exhibition center.
Focusing on the core agricultural issues of Changle town, the backyard has introduced and evaluated new legume varieties suited to local conditions. It has also adopted high-yield and efficient full mechanized cultivation techniques, showcasing 36 new agricultural varieties, such as cowpeas and green beans, on a large scale, alongside developing high-value legume products.

Through demonstration planting, the backyard is projected to lead to an annual legume output value of 5 million yuan ($692,552.31) in the demonstration and planned areas, create over 80 jobs, and boost local income.
Collaborating with universities, research institutions and rural areas, STB integrates technological innovation, talent cultivation, and social services into rural revitalization practices, playing a vital role in advancing high-quality rural industrial development.
