An Index to "The Complete Works of Zhang Jian" was recently published in Jiangsu's Nantong, hometown of Zhang Jian (1853-1926), a renowned industrial magnate, scholar, and educator.
The 2.18 million-Chinese-character indexes include a name index and a title index and coincide exactly with The Complete Works of Zhang Jian, published in 2012, in book size, cover design, as well as binding and layout.
A necessity for Zhang Jian researchers, the book is a complete collection of Zhang's poems, articles, and manuscripts and contains over 6 million Chinese characters.
Historian Zhang Kaiyuan was the first person to propose compiling an index for the book to make locating specific content easier for researchers.
For regular readers, the indexes can also serve as a window to learn more about Zhang, broaden their horizons, and spread knowledge.
The launch of An Index to "The Complete Works of Zhang Jian" also marks the start of the activities to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the establishment of the Zhang Jian Research Center in Nantong.
Founded in 1984, the research center has stayed true to its mission as a center of research, information, service, and publicity.
