Tongzhou has emphasized industrial development in recent years, and nurtured numerous leading high-tech enterprises in various sectors.

As of now, the district boasts one industrial giant with a production value exceeding 10 billion yuan ($1.39 billion), nearly 1,000 above-designated-size industrial enterprises, and 89 small and medium-sized enterprises recognized at the provincial-level or higher for their specialization and innovation.

One of the representative high-tech enterprises in Tongzhou is Nantong Jianghai Capacitor Co Ltd. Standing as a leading enterprise in the domestic aluminum electrolytic capacitor industry, the company owns several independent intellectual property rights and proprietary brands.

Despite possessing solid technology, the company continues to benefit from government support to further enhance its capabilities. In February 2023, leaders from Tongzhou's government visited the China Electric Power Research Institute in Wuhan to facilitate connections and solve technical challenges faced by Jianghai Capacitor.

Representing the fast-developing small and medium-sized enterprises in Tongzhou is Jianghua Textile Co Ltd. The company is currently recognized as a provincial-level specialized and innovative enterprise. Zhang Lei, the company's executive vice-president, said that the company only transitioned into the non-woven materials industry in 2017, shifting from traditional textiles. Its rapid recognition as a provincial-level specialized and innovative enterprise would not have been possible without government guidance and assistance.

To foster high-tech enterprises and facilitate the intelligent transformation of traditional manufacturing industries, Tongzhou has introduced various policies to promote digital transformation, high-tech enterprise cultivation, and timely disbursement of various subsidies and awards. These moves aim to redirect more resources towards advanced manufacturing, so as to drive innovation within enterprises.

Due to efforts made by Tongzhou, the total output value of the district's above-designated-size industry has grown at an average annual rate of 12.8 percent over the past three years.
