Rugao in Nantong, Jiangsu province welcomed its first freight container train on Feb 2, heralding a new chapter for the city's railway freight industry.

The train arrived at the Rugao freight yard of Xinchang Railway Co Ltd. Containers were then lifted off the train and placed onto road transport vehicles. Wang Xiaolin, the yard manager, said they received a total of 300 metric tons of oil materials this time. Once loaded onto the trucks, the goods will be promptly dispatched to Rugao Port to meet the daily production needs of local enterprises.

Since its establishment in 2009, the freight yard has aimed to reduce costs and enhance efficiency in transporting goods for enterprises across the city, noted Wang.

The introduction of railway freight container services in Rugao is expected to accelerate the development of the city's logistics infrastructure while also enhancing intermodal transportation capabilities.
