Tongzhou district in Nantong, Jiangsu province showcased its vibrant consumer market during the recent holidays, underscoring its significant growth potential.

During the three-day holiday, the combined sales of four major chain supermarkets in Tongzhou reached approximately 10 million yuan ($1.4 million), an impressive year-on-year increase of around 20.2 percent. The top-selling categories were fruits, dairy products, and alcoholic beverages.

At the same time, three monitored establishments in the accommodation and dining sectors experienced strong growth. Specifically, dining sales soared to 5.36 million yuan, a year-on-year surge of 243.5 percent, while room revenues surpassed 200,000 yuan, a growth of 151.3 percent over the previous year.
