Tongzhou district in Nantong, Jiangsu province has achieved significant success in promoting the development of high-tech industries this year.

From January to October, the proportion of the district's output value made up by high-tech industries reached 55.16 percent, marking a remarkable increase of 9.16 percentage points compared to the same period last year.

The growth in the output value of high-tech industries can be attributed to the rapid development of local high-tech enterprises. In the first nine months of this year, Tongzhou recognized 124 new science and technology innovation projects and saw 289 companies apply for high-tech status.

As an outstanding high-tech company in Tongzhou, Nantong Jianghai Capacitor Co Ltd has consistently emphasized technological research and development as well as product innovation. The company was honored as a national enterprise technology center this year.

Last year, Jianghai Capacitor started production of its intelligent workshop for welded needle capacitors. The products incorporate independently-developed high-reliability, long-life capacitor technology and are widely used in high-end fields such as 5G communication, industrial automation, and new energy.

In 2022, the company achieved sales of 4.52 billion yuan ($633.84 million), and sales have remained strong this year, with an expected 20-percent increase by the end of the year.

In addition, Tongzhou continues to advance the introduction of high-tech projects. In June of this year, deals for 36 projects in Tongzhou were signed, with a total investment of 21.64 billion yuan.

Among them were 21 major projects with investments exceeding 500 million yuan, covering areas such as new-generation information technology, intelligent manufacturing, new energy, new materials, and technology services.

Tongzhou has also utilized various platforms to create industrial clusters and attract related projects in the industrial chain. One of them - the Nantong National High-tech Industrial Development Zone - which is the only national-level high-tech zone in Nantong, has established a national-level integrated circuit components industrial park. The construction of the photovoltaic heterojunction industrial park developed around emerging industries is accelerating.

In October of this year, Leacent Technology, the leading company in heterojunction solar cells, announced that its heterojunction solar cell project will be operating in Tongzhou. The project has a planned total investment of about 7 billion yuan, with an initial investment of 2 billion yuan.
