Chongchuan district in Nantong, Jiangsu province has recently rolled out a staggered peak parking initiative to ease parking woes for residents.

The initiative aims to maximize the untapped potential of existing parking spaces, optimize their distribution, and enhance the intelligent management of shared parking spaces.

The focus of this initiative involves sharing parking spaces between residential areas and nearby industrial parks. Residents can now park their cars in the industrial parks after returning home in the evening, while those working in the industrial parks can utilize available parking spaces in residential areas during working hours.

One of the beneficiaries of this program is the Huacheng residential community. Due to its age and high population density, parking has been a major challenge.

With the help of off-peak shared parking, a nearby industrial park now provides 375 underground parking spaces and a multi-level car park for residents. Parking is available on weekdays from 5:30 pm to 8:30 am the next day. Additionally, a public parking lot with over 800 spaces near the residential community is now in trial operation.

To date, Chongchuan has implemented 59 shared parking lots with a total of 4,000 shared parking spaces. The mobile application dedicated to this initiative has garnered over 850,000 active users and 95,000 registered vehicles. This innovative approach has alleviated the parking challenges faced by residents in 70 older residential communities.
