Tongzhou district in Nantong, Jiangsu province, has made significant strides in nurturing high-tech enterprises.

In 2022, the district saw the addition of 38 provincial-level specialized and sophisticated enterprises producing new and unique products, a record amount. During the first three quarters, these enterprises reported taxable sales of 26.21 billion yuan ($3.58 billion), a remarkable growth rate of 14.6 percent.

Among them is Nantong Jianghai Capacitor Co Ltd, which secured a coveted spot on the list of enterprises set to be recognized as national technology centers in 2023, the sole enterprise from the city to achieve the feat.

Established in 1958, the company is currently a national-level specialized and sophisticated enterprise, unique in its capacity to research, manufacture, and sell three major categories of capacitors on a global scale.

Another rapidly growing high-tech enterprise, Zhongkeyi (Nantong) Semiconductor Equipment Co Ltd, boasts an impressive portfolio of 71 patents. In 2020, the company invested 1 billion yuan to establish its presence in Nantong's National High-tech Industrial Development Zone. In November of the previous year, the company rolled out its first trial production unit, with the company's annual production capacity set to reach 13,000 units this year.

The emergence of high-tech enterprises has further bolstered industrial growth in Tongzhou. During the first three quarters of the year, the district's value-added industrial output grew by 11.8 percent, securing its position as the second-highest contributor to GDP growth in the city, which recorded a 6.5-percent increase.
