Rudong develops coastal ecological belt
In recent years, Rudong county in Nantong, Jiangsu province, has been expediting the development of its coastal ecological belt while fostering integration with tourism and culture. The county has made significant strides in enhancing coastal wetland preservation, resulting in the creation of a distinctive coastal ecological belt.
The Beautiful Bay project at Xiaoyangkou resort is the first provincial-level demonstration project of its kind in Jiangsu. Since the project's launch last year, efforts to restore the habitat for spoon-billed sandpipers have been instrumental in effectively safeguarding critical coastal wetlands.
The area currently boasts a 15-kilometer stretch of coastline and over 60,000-mu (4,000 hectares) of tidal flats, attracting more than 450,000 migratory birds.
Additionally, Heming Park, located in the northern part of the county, is the first wetland-themed park in Rudong. With a total investment of about 500 million yuan ($68.45 million) and covering an area of roughly 1,300 mu, the park has made substantial progress in developing the southern area along the Weihelu Road, where plans include the development of aquatic ecological landscapes and amenities like a children's park, soccer field, basketball court, and intelligent fitness equipment.
The northern area is set to feature thematic zones like a romantic park, reed marsh area, wooded pond water charm area, and a commercial district along the water street.
In addition to its recreational allure, the park also will serve as an educational hub. Its picturesque natural landscapes beautifully exemplify ecological harmony, driving increased public awareness and understanding of wetlands and fostering a heightened sense of ecological conservation.
