Linjiang New Area of Haimen district in Nantong, East China's Jiangsu province, has seen its efforts to build a small scientific and cultural town with high-tech industries supported by talent pay off, according to local authorities.
The area, which is an innovation park with more than 5,000 industrial talents of various skill sets, including 100 people who have returned from studying abroad, has been experiencing steady growth despite a global economic slowdown, according to Qin Fenglei, Party chief of Linjiang.
During the first seven months of this year, the area's tax revenue increased by 58 percent year-on-year, with the high-tech output value of enterprises with sales of more than 5 million yuan accounting for 93.2 percent, Qin said.
Linjiang, which was originally designed to become an industrial park but switched its development course more than 10 years ago when its leaders realized the area's strength lies in its geographical vicinity to Shanghai. As an innovative scientific town, Linjiang could achieve long-term development as it would develop in tandem with Shanghai.
Linjiang has since consolidated the three leading industries of life and health, electronic information and new materials, and cultural creativity. It has been dedicated to the creation of an industrial ecological model supported with preferential industrial and investment policies.
The area also stresses the building of a talent-friendly community to attract and retain young talent. In the past two years, Linjiang has relied on the cultural industry to provide cultural and artistic services to all kinds of talent in the area.
