The Erjia blueprint fabric from Tongzhou district in Nantong, Jiangsu province became an eye-catching attraction at the China (Wuxi) International Design Expo 2023 from Sept 9 to 11.

The fabric boasts a rich history dating back to the Han Dynasty (26BC-220). It reached its zenith during the mid-Ming Dynasty (1368-1644) and gained prominence as a local specialty, which was offered as tribute to the court during the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911).

Following the establishment of the People's Republic of China, authorities at all levels prioritized the preservation and development of the blueprint fabric dyeing technique. Wang Zhenxing, who joined the Erjia print and dye factory in 1959, was entrusted with the task of drafting the technical standards for blueprint fabric enterprises in Nantong. This standard ensured the preservation of blueprint fabric dyeing techniques.

In September 2022, Erji blueprint fabric was officially registered and approved by the Trademark Office of the National Intellectual Property Administration of China. It was granted a national geographical indication trademark, marking the second successful registration of such a trademark in Tongzhou.
