The 2023 Yazhou Rural Fair, which was the first event of its kind in Yazhou town of Hai'an, a county-level city in Nantong, Jiangsu province, kicked off on Aug 18.

The rural fair features seven sections, including camping, musical performances, food markets and farming experiences. It will last until Aug 27.

The 10-day event is part of efforts made by the town to stimulate consumption and boost the integration of the tourism and agriculture industries.

Zhou Ping, vice-mayor of Hai'an, said that the event will allow more people from across the country to learn about rural life in the county and enrich the night lives of residents.

Based on its rural culture, characteristic industries and natural resources, Yazhou town has established multiple comprehensive tourism attractions in recent years, including Yazhou modern agriculture park and distinctive villages such as Xujiazhuang village and Dongxia village.

The Yazhou modern agriculture park has been designated as a national four-star leisure agriculture and rural tourism park as well as a national 4A scenic spot. Xujiazhuang village has been listed as a provincial demonstration village for an ecological and livable environment.
