The China Abacus Museum, built by the Nantong municipal people's government and Chinese Abacus and Mental Arithmetic Association, opened to the public in 2004 in Nantong, East China's Jiangsu province.

To provide better services and create a more comfortable environment, the local government spent six months upgrading the museum in 2021.

The museum currently houses more than 4,000 ancient books and historical records related to the abacus, as well as over 2,000 abacus instruments from countries such as China, Japan, India, and Russia.

Covering an area of 30 mu (2 hectares), the museum is designed like a Jiangnan-style garden in a modern architectural style with a black, white, and gray color scheme.

The museum consists of halls for the abacus' development, history, culture, material objects, and interaction, as well as a temporary exhibition hall.

The history hall introduces nearly 2,000 years of the abacus' development in China through relics and records, the cultural hall focuses on the abacus in folk customs, painting, music, dance, opera, language, and literature, and the interactive hall offers various interactive programs to allow visitors to become more familiar with abacus.

The temporary exhibition hall is for temporary exhibitions and can also be used for academic events and educational activities.
