Science, technology innovation bolsters Haimen's high-quality development
Scientific and technological innovation has been playing an important role in the high-quality development of Haimen district in Nantong, Jiangsu province in recent years.
The output value of high-tech industries accounted for 49.4 percent of the district's total industrial output value this year, and science and technology contributed more than 60 percent of the district's economic development.
Meanwhile, nine enterprises in the district have been designated national single-product champion enterprises and "little giant" enterprises.
The district is striving to build a 196-square-kilometer science and innovation belt along the Yangtze River, aiming to become an important innovation hub in the Yangtze River Delta region.
As of the end of 2021, the district's scientific and technological innovation belt along the Yangtze River had gathered 85.92 percent of the district's high-level talents, 72.73 percent of R&D institutions above the provincial level and 61.48 percent of high-tech enterprises and accounted for 73.36 percent of the district's high-tech industrial output value and 66.04 percent of R&D expenditures.
Emerging industries such as intelligent equipment manufacturing, life and health, new materials and new-generation information technology are the pillar industries of the science and innovation belt.
In addition, to cultivate more talent, the Yangtze Delta Drag Advanced Research Institute was established in the district's Linjiang New Area. The institute has cultivated 180 professional students with master's degrees and has delivered a large number of high-quality pharmaceutical talents to enterprises in Dongbuzhou Science City.
The gathering of talent will help Linjiang New Area transform from a chemical industry park to a science and technology park, making it a fertile ground for the health industry and especially biomedicine.
